The King Has Left The Grocery Store

No, not Elvis. The King-Of-Fools has been to the grocery store, twice. And been successful both times. The King is a clever young fellow, and I'm sure he can learn from other's mistakes. Although, he does seem pleased with his successes at the store. He'll do well to remember that pride goeth before a fall, and true success comes from having the humility to ask for help when you need it ...

My mother sends an empty box with my father as an example. I remember once, he picked me up at the dorm the day before Thanksgiving. We needed to make a quick stop on the way home to pick up a package of vanilla pudding, an ingredient in some dessert my mother was making. It had to be a specific brand. Sure enough, he had the box. We went to FOUR grocery stores. It seems everyone was sold out. Because, in the South, holidays are like snow predictions ... everyone rushes to the grocery to buy pudding and cream-of-chicken/celery soup. Anyway, my father is old and wise. And knows better than to go home without that pudding. At the fourth store, he asks the manager if they have any in the back. The manager points out another brand. My father shows him the box and shakes his head gentlely. The manager looks around, and almost whispers "come with me". When they get to the manager's office, the man pulls open a drawer in the desk and produces TWO boxes of the desired pudding! "My wife is the same way, and I put back an extra two boxes this year. Have a good holiday!" (I'm not kidding, I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried)

See, there's an example of why its a GREAT idea to ask for help and directions!

May I ask at what age he broke down and asked for directions? I don't see it happening to any of the males in my household! Funny post, Lucy!

I'm pretty sure Mother had him trained by 40. And I seem to remember it wasn't an easy training, but she was very .... uh .... "determined".
