My husband I were arguing over how many lurkers I have. I thought I had three. He thought I probably had more than three. Guess how many?

More than three! Yay for me!

The important part of this story is not that I have statistics, but that he is right. Again. I don't know WHY I ever argue with him :)

What's a lurker?

Leah | 10/17/2006 - 04:38 PM

Isn't "lurker" the niftiest word? It reminds me of the SwedishChef on the Muppets!

Lurkers are those lovely people that read your site but don't comment. Just lurking in the shadows, always watching, never commenting.

Ok, now that particular image is putting me in mind of one of those detective movies from the fifties that show a guy in a trenchcoat by a lamp-post lighting a cigarette. Quiet and mysterious. Intriguing!

Lucy | 10/17/2006 - 05:56 PM

I lurk (mostly).

King of Fools | 10/17/2006 - 06:34 PM

You can count me as a lurker.

Kathi | 10/18/2006 - 02:40 AM

Lurkers can be fascinating. I've got a number of lurkers over on my blog, whom I've come to recognize in my stats. There's the lurker from Singapore. There's the lurker from Raleigh, North Carolina. There's the lurker from Dublin, Ireland, who uses Netscape 4 (!!!) and an "unknown operating system" (I think I picked him up when I blogged about the Irish game of hurling.) There's the lurker from Luxemburg, who uses Safari on a Mac. And then there's the lurker from the University of Houston superconductor labs, who has been with me through thick and thin ever since my blog started out.

My question is, how did you find out how many lurkers you have?

Suzanne Temple | 10/20/2006 - 08:31 PM

Suzanne -- I have no idea. Basically, The King-of-Fools made my site pretty and my husband handles all the techie stuff. Like stats and "but it won't work" moments.

I bet there are tons of people that could help you learn, I'm just not one of them :(

Thats a "sad" face, not a "psycho angry" face. Hmmm. I need emoticons! -- Lucy

I'm a lurker... I'm friends with The Jack (in "real" life) who's friends with The King... which led me to you... I find you eloquent and entertaining. So, I lurk.

Amber Joy | 10/21/2006 - 05:08 AM

Hi Amber Joy! The Jack seems like SUCH a sweetie when he posts at King-of-Fools. Got to admit, one of the reasons I love King-of-Fools is that he seems to have a higher-than-average ratio of "sweeties" to "others". Even the *ahem* liberals he attracts are charming!

(Which is not to imply that I think either you or The Jack is a liberal democrat. Although its ok if you are! I was just thinking more of IvanIvanovich over there, who is SO definitely less conservative than I am :) (But don't you just love it that his name alliterates? Is that even a word? Regardless. I like it when things match :)

Lucy | 10/21/2006 - 06:45 PM

So, basicly, I need to find or marry someone who knows this stuff? Got it. Thanks!

Suzanne Temple | 10/23/2006 - 01:19 PM

If your blog is hosted on your own domain name (like, your server probably has a control panel. You need to enter your account name and password to access this.

Within the control panel are some programs that will give you a report on statistics. This is how I saw that Lucy has several thousand unique visitors per month.

I just noticed you use blogger. I tried to check Blogger's site right now to see if I could learn anything, but Blogger's site is having problems now.

I assume Blogger has a support email address. When their site is working, I suggest you find it and send them an email with your question. It may take a while, but eventually they will email you an answer.

You can click here to see who has recently linked to your blog. I know this doesn't answer your question, but you might find it interesting.

Lucy's Husband | 10/23/2006 - 02:42 PM

Thanks, Lucy's husband, you're terrific! Blogger has been having trouble for almost three days now. I'm not sure why.

and Lucy...this guy's a keeper.

Suzanne Temple | 10/23/2006 - 03:27 PM

I just found a great place that gives me terrific stats.
